My printmaking class started a couple of weeks ago and I have been learning etching. These are some of my first attempts based on some drawings of trees in Australia.............. and a dream!
First print was on cream heavyweight paper of a good quality - subsequent prints were made on proofing paper
I experimented with hard and soft grounds
The final print after 4 different grounds and now ready to add aquatint! Watch for the next post!

I love etchings Rosie - can you get closer so we can see more detail? Liking what you have done so far. Thanks.
very cool! looks like a great class
Etching must be one of the oldest ways to make art. Very nice, but I, too, would like to get closer. Keep on posting this, Rosie.
Looks good Rosie, you've captured our bush very well indeed.
I have never tried etchings- it looks too hard-- the detail and line work is exquisite here.
thank you so much for all your encouraging comments - you are right about getting more detail and I'll give it a try with the camera - I am going to have to invest in a good scanner as well - I am often frustrated that I can't show small sketchbook drawings!
so you have a new direction as well..
lots of fodder from all the gorgeous
shot you took.
Wow, you are settling in nicely...an etching class...I like the progression and will be watching for more.
Oh I love these, Rosie. Makes me so ashamed that I can't draw and am resorting to photos and fabric sketches. Enjoy your experiments; good that we can all get outside now that the weather is warmer, for inspiration. Hope you are well. A.
